Customized RIC 230

Post by bugman »

Here is a redone 230 on ebay that looks more RIC-like than its original form. I like the looks of it and wonder how the 2030 bass would look with the same modifications. What do you think?

That's definitely heavily modified. It doesn't even look like a 230 any longer.

It is the fine work of Forumite Dane Wilder, who has done some nice customizations.

Thanks Paul! I just can't seem to leave well enough alone but this beat, double cutaway-Tele-looking 230 needed a complete makeover.

Dane, this guitar is very cool looking. Great job! I'm considering throwing my hat into the ring on this one.

Hey John, just throw your JetGlo V68 in and we'll call it even...LOL! Did you play it at the RIC 75th Confluence?

I seem to remember at least picking it up and being a bit puzzled by it - I think the rest of your guitars stole the show! Or maybe I was just hypnotized by those side LED's on your doubleneck.

In case anyone's watching my auction on this guitar, I was hoping to see if I could correct a slight forward bow in the neck, so I removed the truss rods. They had a pretty steep curve in them so I got them almost straight, reinserted them and then set about retuning and adjusting the rods again. Sure enough, that was the problem and now the neck is nearly flat with very low action. I highly recommend this procedure for anyone with a similar problem. I have a lot of experience with the old style rods but none with the newer design. The fact that the neck comes off just made this easier.

This is my first post on the forum although I have been reading it for awhile. I have a nice collection of Rickenbackers and I just received the customized 230 from Dane Wilder that I purchased on Ebay.He did an excellent job of getting the neck straight an it plays an sounds fantastic. It was a pleasure dealing with him an enjoyed our conversations. This guitar looks even better in person .Great work Dane

I'm really glad you liked it Chuck. It'll definitely confuse any Rick-o-philes who see you playing it. If you become famous, maybe RIC will build more...LOL. There's a 3000 bass on the bay that looks like it need my attention. My job here is never done.
