Well I'm back in the USA after a year in the desert, glad that's over with! I finally got to play my "new"68 4001 with the original horseshoe, the things sounds fine and I wouldn't change a thing on it!

This is about an early nineties Gibson guitar, but the other night I played with a guy I used to be in a band with, he used the same amp and guitar he always did, I remarked how good his guitar sounded that particular night, because it used to sound the worst of several identical guitars he has (ES125's), he said, oh yeah? I got the pickups recharged a little while ago.
So I guess it can make a big difference, the difference in this guitar was remarkable.

Yeah, Kendall, let us know your views on the Mapleglo '68 4001 and the news on the 21 fret 4001. Some months ago you mentioned that one of your Rick basses could do with a new treble pickup (you probably remember we exchanged a couple of e-mails on the subject). Was it the 21 fret?
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Dedgoat: I have always enjoyed the bass lines on "A Horse With No Name". "I've been to the desert on a horse .... Perhaps it has new meaning for you now. We look forward to your comments as you renew your relationship with your Rickenbacker basses.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Sorry guys I forgot about this thread!
OK, so I'm back and the Shadow is a great bass to gig with live, the 68 is a great playing bass, slim neck, the overall feel is very solid and well different than the later basses I've had.
The only issue is with the horseshoe, it has a very low output, I haven't measured it yet but I would almost think it's barely alive.
The 21 fret bass is still at the luthier's, who been on vacation for three weeks (grr) and will hopefully return on the 25th of Aug, then I should know something about the status. Sergio, the pu was for the 21 fret monster.
I can paraphrase what Egypt was like: Hot, and smelled like feet.

Didn't America use a Ric bass? It sounds like one.

Guys, I am thinking that a Hofner bass was used to record the bass track on "A Horse With No Name"....anybody?? If it's not a Hofner, it sure sounds like one.

It's funny but I remember my friend Geoff telling me he saw the Bass Player in America Bass using a Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi short scale Bass,
Cheers,
