Never had a problem with blisters in 28 years. And I play HARD, a la Geddy. Maybe I just got good technique! LOL! Yeah right....

Elys....this bloody Ric was mine. Like Ted said it was due to playing my new to me 4003s8 the night before for a two hour set. My blisters let go at a show the following night. It was my band's first gig at the House of Blues so wanting to make a good showing and with the help of some alcohol I was able to suffer through it. The worst of it was the sticky factor, the loose skin on my fingers and the fact that the blisters ruptured about 15 minutes into our 2 hour set. It was all worth it because now I have a disturbing pic and my fellow band members no longer question my dedication.

Mark.....I actually think my technique is fine since I normally don't have any issues. It was the eight string cheese grater that did me in. I still can't wait to get my 4004 8 stringer project going though. Image

Yes, 8'ers are a lot harder on your fingers than the standard four. It does not feel like it at first but becomes pretty evident after a set. The strings give a lot less and require more force to set them vibrating. If your hands are not properly conditioned, the strings will rip and tug at your callouses eventually causing them to blister. It makes sense to practice with an 8'er for a while before using it on a long set.

wow brian that pic is insane!

I've never had trouble with blisters...I think I've gotten maybe one since I've been playing. I've gotten plenty of sore fingers though but they never blister.

Yup, the Blood Bass is not mine...never bled on a bass, never had a blue guitar of any type, never had anything with Barts in it. Image

Normally 'dems fighting words...

But I'll make an exception. This time. 'Cuz you're big. And a cop... Image

I almost got a MB Laredo once. And I have some axes with after-market PU's - DiMarzio's and Seymour Duncan's. Does that at least count for something???

Sometimes its Good To Be A Cop. Especially when you know that you get Professional Courtesy whenever you otherwise would have gotten a speeding ticket in that beautiful GN Image

An FBI friend of mine always tells the State Highway Patrol guys that "he's armed" while handing over his driver's license. The highway guy who pulled him over then exclaims "WHAT!" and then my friend hurriedly says "Oh, I'm FBI" and shows the badge. Then the guy puts the ticket book up and they shop-talk for awhile, then he always is let go without a ticket.

Wouldn't it be cool if they were like us and both shop-talked about Rickenbackers, like Brian would? Image Image
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and sit in with the band whenever you can, to keep your chops up!

Elys.....I don't know what you are talking about. We don't let each other off for traffic violations. That would be wrong and unfair to everyone else. It just so happens that since I got on the job 11 years ago I haven't gotten one ticket......I have been stopped a "few" times but I'm sure it was just a coincidence that they let me off with warnings, a laugh and a slap on the shoulder. I'm shocked to hear that cops give other cops breaks....just shocked I tell ya'.

....and my GN has never been over the speed limit or layed a beautiful 800 ft. smokey patch of rubber except at the dragstrip.....just like it was owned by a little old granny.
