I believe this was broadcast in early '73.

I always liked his playing, but didn't know he played a Rick.

And guess what? There's another Rickenbacker in this version. Can you find it?

Dane, you're my Main Man. (Sorry, just doing a little T.Rex) Because those two songs figure big in my history too.
My first band in 9th Grade, Ecstasy, did Suffragette City at my unequivocal behest. I was the Lead Vocalist, you see. Didn't play guitar well yet. I didn't have equipment either, so they put a ten inch speaker on two toenailed pieces of plywood and called it good. My Mom sewed me up a silver satin suit. I wore it with a matching scarf. It was trimmed with black ribbon with pearl sequins. The other guys (they really didn't dress up at all) had fiery eyes and a full chrome Slingerland drum set, a sunburst Fender Bassman with a Precision Bass, a black Les Paul Custom through a Peavey stack, a sunburst Stratocaster through a Fender Twin...oh yeah, and my mic was a Radio Shack Condenser Microphone. It was long. It smelled good and had a faulty switch.
We ROARED into Suffragette City and I tore my vocal cords on that song I loved it so much...but it was all really just a ripping good instrumental, because I was like Marcel Marceau against all those guitars and drums and amps, and the song blasted on and it built and built until we all STOPPED!--- and this is when you finally heard me, all small and thin and really cool---
" a-Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am! " BARRRRRANNNNNNNG!!!...
Years later, I recorded a passable one-guy multitrack version of Hang Onto Yourself, with no funny story attached.
Bowie is one hell of a songwriter.
