Bonanza

Post by shamustwin »

Last night while channel surfing, I caught the beginning of the old western TV show Bonanza. The episode synopsis said it was from 1961.

I could swear the melody line on the classic theme song was played on an electric 12 string.

Or do I just have double vision in my ears?

Hey Jerry. I did a little googling when I saw this today. All I found was that Tommy Tedesco played a lot of Fenders, including a XII.

OK, but 1961? Did Fender have the XII then? I thought Ricks were the first electric 12.

It sure sounded like a 12, unless it's double tracked in octaves.

The show blurb could have had the wrong year.

Nah... I think Jason's right. It's a Fender with a lot of reverb.

RIC didn't manufacture the electric 12 until '63, I do believe.

Right, I know that part (Rick 12, '63), but hearing the theme, at that time, sounded very much like a 12.

My ears must have been ringing, or jangleing.

That theme was the first thing I ever figured out how to play on a guitar.
