Where's the love for Rick guitars?

Post by leesh »

I can't count how many times I see Rick basses today...with younger bands (The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys), in movies (Accepted), on commercials (AT&T/Cingular)....

But where are the Rick guitars?

I think Graham has 'em. Image

There are some around, Alisha. The guitarist from Kasabian uses a 481FG, one of the guitarists from Interpol uses a 330FG, Thom and Ed from Radiohead have always used a slew of Ricks (and still do!), Jesse Lacey from Brand New uses a 330JG, and my local boy Kevin Devine also plays a 330JG.

And, of course, I use nothing but Ricks when I play, whether it be a bass gig or a guitar gig! Image

Then there's a couple more hailing from around here that use them. I'm **** with names, but the guitarist from Maximo Park uses a 330 and the Lead guitarist from Editors has a personal fave of mine, a JG 620.

I myself play my 620/12 at performances and for recording, possibly making me the only person ever to attempt metal on a 12 string Ric. Granted, I also use my Dano a lot, but I still play my Ric. A little while ago on the corperate site there was a 16 (I think) who owns a 325vsomething-or-other (I'm tired, didn't get any sleep last night).

I suppose you could say that JBiscuti and me are flying the flag on here for the younger generation of Ric guitar players. More are welcome

Sam Roberts uses a 360/6 FG live. Matt Mays & El Torpedo use a 360/12, a 330/6 and a 620/6.

There was a FG 330 shown during the Monday Night Football theme this past season. I recall at least one closeup of it and it was center screen several times.

However, I am neither famous nor young!!

Around here nobody uses 'em. That's one of the reasons why I want one. Everybody of a certain age is gonna say "Oh yeah, I remember that sound. What kind of guitar did you say that was?" And the ones that are too young are going to say "Wow, that's definately[sic] different."

I've seen a lot of 360-6's on The Gospel Music Channel, mostly mostly in videos by the newer Christian rock bands like Leeland, The Turning, and one other I can't remember (sorry whoever you are!)

I thought I saw either a 350 or a 360 in a Lost Prophets video... Not sure though as it only glimpses once or twice in the whole thing as most of it is focussed on Ian Watkins (lead singer for those who don't know). If it is a Ric, they're the most 'down with it' band I've seen play one. Even if they are emo... *sniffs at the thought that an emo band might be using a Ric, what a waste of a Ric*
