The MMT would be cool, but there are copyrights on the artwork and that is a big hill to climb knowing that McCartney doesn't usually put his name on anything.

Craig, I think that JH has tried every angle to get some type of endorsement from Paul. Paul won't endorse anything. It comes from getting screwed in the early Beatle days

I've got great pics and even went to the trouble of making templates for the front and back. I was going to do my PMC, but decided to flip it for obvious reasons.

Zero fret or not to zero fret?

I am betting that it is without a zero fret as this was a modification after the 4001S left the factory.

The zero fret has recently been removed from McCartney's bass, so there is no need to issue a bass containing it. As Peter said , it was done after it left the factory. The original nut was still on the bass by the end of the 60s, but pics from 69 show the bass already sanded down, minus the zero fret.

Wasn't the trimmed down horns and mapleglo finish modifications after the bass left the factory? Is the bass supposed to be a replica of how it looks now or when it left the factory? Regardless I can't wait for the unveiling. Thanks to all involved and it's about time!

Wont PM be a little ****** that this bass is really a rip off of his? Either now or then? He might feel "screwed" as he was in the early days!

I would think that it would be difficult to be upset over an instrument that you decided not to endorse in the first place. Also, there were many similar instruments that left the factory in the 1960s and were played by others so it never was a custom McCartney bass. It certainly has become "his" bass by association, however. I can hardly wait to see it.

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade here, but what if you want a Rick 4001 that was as close to authentic 60's specs as possible but you really didn't want a "Paul McC" reissue?(please no flames) Is the 4001c64 a McCartney bass lookalike only or will there be an offering of a circa 1964 bass available for those who would prefer that? I really love the Beatles but I don't have a preference for the shaved horn, zero fret, reversed headstock, etc. I'd just like a fireglo, right-handed version of a bass like Paul's when he got it.
Any info greatly appreciated!
