That's a very nice bass, at a very nice price (for the moment).
I'm not sure I'd go for it, though. Not exactly the RIC model I'm looking after.

An "Under the bed"..one of the best I,ve seen for a while..and only a day,s drive away...very tempting...However, I think were looking at quite a few more bids yet. This could fetch a premium price for a 4005...

I've been corresponding with the seller a bit regarding this lovely. Seems like a very nice fellow. I think this is going to be one of those models that I'll always wonder about though. I could be wrong but I suspect that the desire for one may be sweeter than actually owning one, if you know what I mean. Still, it is a very, very nice bass.

Hollow body basses are great to play, they resonate and you can feel it in your body. Very organic almost like an upright vibe.

Don't get me wrong. I love hollowbodies and have several - a '55 Kay, a '68 Guild Bluesbird, a Hofner, a Coral Firefly / Hagstrom blend - as well as a couple chambered bodies. I just think a 4005, for me, is something best to be left wondering about. I've never played one though so this really has no basis in reality. Feel free to fill me in anyone!

Wow, what's the Kay like? I played an old Kay once years ago, I don't remember if it was hollow, I think so, it had a big tree trunk neck but sounded pretty good.

Wow, I wonder if that's the first 4005 that I ever saw in the early 70's...one of my Brother's friends was a guitar player from Thomaston and I saw him pull out a very strange Fireglow Rickenbacker Bass with black nylon strings at a Hippy Farm House jam on a sunday afternoon way back then...it looks like the car plate is maybe from Clayton county, and it WAS purchased at the old Ideal Music store downtown...Hmmm, I think I'll email him and see...don't worry though, I can't afford it, but it would be nice to know!

I love my Kay. Fat, fat tone, but with nice articulate highs. Short scale, big single cutaway hollowbody. Most have one pickup though mine has two (only one I've ever seen like that). Neck is a very deep v shape, kind of like a Kay upright, which makes sense as it was the first electric they made. I have a picture somewhere. I'll post a link to it when I find it.
