Important advice needed on SVT 8x10 (for my Ric!)

Post by charlyg »

I just bought a SVT Classic head and the fellow would like to part with his 8x10 cab, He is offering it for 300 bucks, I counered with 250, but, no go!. Here is the info:

"It is the 8 x 10, it does not have the front grill, has been painted
sparkle silver and kinda splotchy in couple areas, but the
speakers sound great and could easily be taken back to it's
original form."

Is it worth i?. I will probably fix it up and sell as an 8x10 is a bit much for our little church, although our lead has a Marshall half stack, with a 5150 head, so........

He is delivering in the morning so he needs to k now whether to just load up the head or both.

Thanks guys!

Charly, if it's only weakness is cosmetic, I'd grab it. It is very difficult to find one under $500, and if you do, the worry is picking it up. You have a chance to try one at a basement price and get it delivered.

I've found the SVT/810 combo is the way to go for a bass with passive electronics. This ones condition makes it easier to move as you have no bump or scratch worries.

My SVT experience has been limited to an 810 cab. I can tell you it's more than just power. It's a wonderful tone that is very satisfying.

Good luck!

Go for it. I got my 8x10 for $900.00. Can't go wrong for $300.
I am good with my fingers and I can do it all night !

if you are going to keep it in one space (primarily), i'd keep it.

if you will be packing it regularly, i'd sell it for $500 and put the money towards a 2x10 and 1x15 for flexibility.

the thought of a Marshall half-stack and a full SVT rig, in a church? must be a big church.

There you go!

I was SO sick of being told "can you turn that bass up" or "I can't hear that bass" I had to do SOMETHING.

I just tested out my Ampeg BSR & HLF410 last night for the first time.....I don't think they'll be telling me to "turn it up" any longer. Image

I can't IMAGINE what a full SVT 8X10 would sound like...I too vote GO FOR IT Charly!

I did it! Should be here around noon. I'll have pics, and maybe a sound bite. I should be able to do it, although I've never done sound on a Mac. I assume I'll use Garage Band. We'll see.

It is a very small church. Converted school trailer about 30 x 70. We have 4 of them. One for Worship, one for an office, one for Sunday School, and one for fellowship stuff. They actually turned out loking not too bad for trailers!! They are on foundations so that helps!

Hmmmmm........

Ah Charley, you might need an 810 in each corner so as not to tip over the building.

Congrats! Anxious to hear your review and photo's.

Charly, I would not touch that beauty. That's the kind of look that takes years in the trenches to create.

I think it looks cool as hell.

Only money I would spend is for a case to keep and move her in just as she is.

Hey, it''s no more than ten years old, or there abouts! Actually, i should write down he serial number and see if there is a way to date it. It is not even close to the s'n of the head.

Also, I think it is a bit too much power for me. Heck, I shake the whole house with very little on the "knob". I will try the head with my 4x10. I may even have to stick with the B2RE!
