This Spring, Roger is coming back to The Barns (in Virginia) and it will be my fourth time.
Ya know McGuinn was at the Fur Peace Ranch last year. Ya coulda seen him then. Heck, it's only 200 miles away or so from you. I drove 400 miles(!) to go see him and Jorma.

PS: I didn't see the original Byrds. But I was Front Row Center (!) for the early 70s version at the Fillmore East. What do I remember of their show? Not a darn thing. Isn't that a shame?
I was actually there to see Delaney and Bonnie on the same bill but remember very little about that set too. I do remember Delaney shaking my hand.
Gosh, it was over 35 years ago, folks.

Mark, did you ever decide how are you going to protect the signatures on your guitar?

Hey Cole.
No, I haven't.
I'll admit - I'm too afraid to do anything.
A long time ago Paul W. gave me great advice about using Windex and a mylar sheet but if I screw it up, I'm a goner.
And, as I've mentioned before, I have the new nut that I want installed. But if the tech's hand slips. Or if he forgets and uses some kind of polish to clean the guitar ... aagh!

So far, I have been very, VERY careful. I've only gigged twice with it. And between sets I watched it like a hawk.
Otherwise it only goes to rehearsals or stays in my studio. [And my children know that the penalty for going into daddy's studio is death.]

If you or anyone else have any thoughts, I'm all ears.

I'd talk to Paul W or Dale or even Mark Arnquist and see what they say. Mark Arnquist made me a cover for mine, of course that's for the pickguard. Maybe they could spray some clear coat or something over them. I'm just pulling stuff out of my hat, just brainstorming.

What kind of cover did Mark make for your pickguard? I was thinking about seeing if Roger would autograph either the pickguard on my 370/12 RM and/or the certificate of authenticity.

I call it plexiglass but he called it by another name. It's some new hitech material. It's real thin. He shaped it exactly like my upper guard. In between the "plexi" and the signature I put a thin sheet of the stuff you cover old photos with. Of course, I can't remember what it's called but it suppose to protect it from UV light so as not to fade over time. I'm sure I went a little over board.

Jim, I've seen a pic of a 370/RM with both signatures on it somewhere. I think it was a fellow over in Europe that got Roger to sign it. Let me see if I can find it again. Maybe someone here has that guitar.

Thanks, Cole. I was thinking about having him sign the lower pickguard. I think I also remember seeing the 370/RM that you mentioned. If memory serves me, both signatures were on the upper guard.

Well, my wife and I saw Roger last night in concert, and it was a fantastic event! He started off-stage with the opening notes of Mr. Tambourine Man, and then walked out on stage with his Ric 370/12 RM. His instrument list was very simple, just the Ric, his Martin HD7, and his banjo. He proceeded to wow all of us with his Byrds, folks and blues songs, along with anecdotal stories of his musical history. His finale of Turn, Turn, Turn and the encore of Feel A Whole Lot Better and May The Road Rise to meet you had us all on our feet.
His solo stage presence is unmatched. His wife, Camilla, was very charming and graceful as well, selling his cd's in the lobby, and taking time to talk to us. My only regret is that she said Roger is no longer signing personal autographs, like my pickguard I had taken with me from my 370/12 RM; but he had pre-signed some of his cd's and posters, which we purchased. It was a very intimate setting; only 200 or so seats, and we were fourth row dead center, not more than 20 feet from Roger.
Long may this Byrd continue to soar!

Since he seems to enjoy playing small, intimate rooms, I rather wish he'd come to the Kansas City area.

P.S. I wonder why he has ceased to sign guitar....oh, wait...I'll bet I can guess....to prevent fraudulent copies of the RIC 370RM 12 string. Hmmmmm, probably a smart move.
