Note that people have long figured out that Paul treated the Hofner(s) as his "live bass", in concept as well as reality. Note he brings out the Hofner again for some late videos and the "live performance stuff" if Let It Be (even though he was using other basses by that point, and less and less of the Hofner). He certainly recognized the Hofner's status in many people's minds.

Nowadays, we like the Rick, but I can see it would have been weirder for it to have popped up back then.

Wasn't the chipped tooth supposed to be proof that Paul is dead? That's really Billy Shears, prior to having his teeth fixed to look like Paul. Maybe Billy didn't like the Ric ...Image
