Frankie Laine
Frankie Laine
Frankie Laine has passed away at the age of 93.
Whilst his era was the 50's and not the 60's which is the main focus of this forum I liked FL.
As a young boy of 6/7 I had an aunt who had a radiogram and had lots of FL records, probably my first introduction to records, I used to love listening to The Kid's Last Fight, Answer Me etc.
He still holds a unique record in UK. In 1953 he spent 27 weeks at number 1 in UK and I believe accounted for 18 of those topping the charts in 53 on three separate occasions, still a record today.
Here is arguably his finest hour

TODAY'S THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
Roy: Frankie started out slower that I would have liked, but by the end of his number he certainly won me over. Two words that can make the difference for all of us, "I believe." Thanks for this one.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

When you consider that it was recorded over 54 years ago the simplicity of the production allows the vocal talent to shine, many acts today rely on production Laine relied on own his vocal ability, he didn't need recording techniques to make him sound good, just my opinion of course.
Laine and a good friend of his, Johnny Ray, were not rock and rollers but could sell a song.

"I Believe" was a personal favorite of mine.
RIP Frankie, and thanks for the great songs.
