Charley, spray-on glue isn't adequate for tolex on a cabinet. It will work at first, but even the strongest stuff that 3M sells in a spray-on format won't hold for more than 6 months of use. Also, the original covering wasn't vinyl....it was a version of tolex, which is cottom backed and more fleixible than vinyl. I hope you go the right stuff. The other thing is that covering a cabinet is not very easy if you haven't done it before. I've done some before and I always have to stop and think about the best way to do the corners to have them look right. It isn't easy for someone who hasn't done it before.
I'd agree with the Ampeg B25 vs Sunn 200S comparision. They each sound different, but are about the same power and pwerformance. One of my favorite bass tones is old tube Sunns like the 200S, and the Ampeg B25 has more of the "Ampeg" sound, but it is a great sound too with much of the character of the SVT. You can tell its in the same family.

Charlie, I took the ripped tolex off my cabs, the old ones were put on with something similar to wallpaper paste, come off very easily, don't know about the new ones. I then painted them black, you can't tell the difference unless you are right on top of them. Much of the "SVT" sound is from the dynamic range, they have a LOT of headroom, much more than many amps rated at twice the power, the old ones sound better and are louder than the new ones.
I've a bassist friend here in town took his old 2x15 cabinet and had it sprayed in the same material they use to do spray on truck bed liners, it looks good and so far has held up fine. After spraying he refitted the steel corner protectors, handles and front cover.
"It's Red Jim, but not as we know it...."
