Wait til you get downunder Brian, aussie TV is full of Beatle commercials! General Motors(Holden), a mobile phone company and a childcare facility are all using them at present! It sucks bigtime!
So, Brian, when's your ETA?

Yeah, and it's not that new. Ford used Help twenty years ago. Notice they're all John songs. It's been said Yoko will sell anything for a couple of hundred grand.
This is off the record

Yoko has no control over who Sony/Jackson sells the publishing right to. The only control they, Ono, McCartney, Starr and the Harrison estate, have is over the Beatles versions of their songs. Just about anyone who wants to fork out the cash can acquire the rights to reproduce Beatles tunes, just as long as they aren't 'The Beatles' doing the songs. Nike used the Beatles version of, Revolution, once. It aired about one day before they got a cease and desist.

Actually Sony/Jackson do not own Ringo or Harrison's songs.

Actually, Ringo wrote a good bit with the Roundheads (although I just found out he has parted company with them) and shared the credit with the band. His Beatles material? "Octopus's Garden," "Don't Pass Me By," "Flying," "What Goes On," and some of the incidental material in "Let It Be," if memory serves. I'm not sure if he received sole or shared credit for "Oh My My," Back Off Boogaloo," "It Don't Come Easy" and "Photograph." He still puts on a good show.

Just off the top of my head Flying is owned partially by Sony/Jackson. And I believe George Harrison wrote Photograph.

Harrison co-wrote "Photograph" with Ringo. At least that's what Ringo has said. BTW Brian, did you ever decide to give your C64FG the MMT treatment?
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again

"Revolution" is currently running here on a Mitsubishi ad! And its a very "b" grade version! Thats what disappoints me the most, is that they dont even do a respectable cover of the original! The Smithereens new CD is a more than adequate tribute!

While it's annoying or disheartening to hear bad covers of the Beatles on commercials, at least it's not the Fabs themselves on the spots. Sometimes you can hear an entire commercial set on television filled with snippets from Zeppelin, the Who, the Kinks, the Zombies and others. It's like an edited version of oldies radio on TV.

Sony & Jackson share ownership of all the songs published through Northern Songs. Some of Harrison's earlier songs are published through Northern Songs. I believe it was up to and including 1967 that George and Ringo songs were published by Northern. 1968 saw the formation of George and Ringo's own publishing companies which Sony & Jackson have no part of. The Revolution Nike ad used the Beatles version because at the time Yoko mistakenly gave permission for only the Beatles version to be used.

Randy, It is with Paul right now waiting her turn. I'm not sure how much longer. Paul says he has several basses in front of mine in various phases. I just pretend she's a new bass on order and it is back ordered. I'm hoping it isn't much longer, but I am prepared for the wait. Thanks for asking Randy.

Okay, I'll admit I like this cover. The marketing aspect doesn't bother me. On the other hand, I couldn't stand the Macy's cover on From Me To You.

I like this girl's voice, whoever she is.

Should I get a new user ID? ;-)

Looked it up on Google. The vocalist on the Target spot is Zimbabwe-born Sophia Shorai. Maybe someone knows of her.
