"Brian, are all your 4004's stock or did you perform any kind of mods like the VVT conversion?"
The electronics are stock on all of mine. I don't like the VVT mod and have been too lazy to swap for concentric pots but the mod is likely in the future.
My amp sounds fine with the 4004's and with the V63 but the settings are drastically different for each to get the best out of 'em....or what I perceive to be the best. For me the 4004's really came alive when I raised the p/u's as high as I could without the strings hitting them during aggressive playing and switching to flats. Tons of clarity or "growl" when I need it and strong lows.
Mark's formula is different for what he needs. 4004's certainly aren't for everyone and, apparently/sadly, neither are V63's.
