Why not simply buy new ones at the source?

Somebody bid over $30 for a treble pickup cover about a month ago. That is about twice current retail.

Yeah, but the buyer of the two toasters is based in France, it isn't easy to get Rickenbacker guitars or parts there.

Why not? I'm in Israel and what I can't get locally, I buy online. Life is so much simpler since the internet. How is buying directly from RIC, Mike Parks or POTR and shipping to France different from buying off eBay and having it shipped to France? Last year I got a toaster from MF when they were $50 including int'l shipping. Last time I checked they were $66 from MF. I think they are $100 thru RIC corporate website. Why pay almost double for used pickups that were messed with?

Sergio, the last 2 sets of high-gains went for 109.95 and 122.50 on ebay.

That makes sense. Still less than $150 for two high-gains from RIC - and you can't buy them from RIC now, they are out of stock (both guitar and bass). But $370 for two unwound toasters... can't see the logic here.

This happens with a lot of Rickenbacker parts on eBay (knobs and knob sets seem to always go for a lot more than list). I'm thinking that the buyers are just going with what's easiest for them even though the cost is substantially greater.

There have been many auctions for RIC pickups (and a lot of other hardware) in the last year and a half, & a lot ended higher than the list price from RIC, even when there was stock.
I either expect to pay a lot less, assuming that the pickup needs rewinding (no problem, since Sergio does fabulous work), or I'd expect to see it pictured connected to a meter to show it's functionality, as in this particular auction (which is the exception, rather than the rule).

There are also ebayers who are not savvy enough to know that you can get knobs and parts new from RIC or an authorized RIC parts dealer.

These were "unwound" to what toasters are from RIC - 7.3k. Or were they? When did RIC change to the quasi-scatterwound 7.4k toasters?
