From what i've read so far about the 4001C64, it is exactly what your looking for Squirebass. If you want the McCartney version of the bass circa: 1970 with the shave horn etc, it's the 4001C64S
Both basses are to be available in both Mapleglo and Fireglo. The Fireglo is exactly the same as was produced in 1964!
Personally i'm looking for 4001v68 in Burgundyglo, with checkered binding, etc.
I've been saying my prayers every night before going to bed on this one!
Cheers

Squirebass: Seeing as we are just speculating here, it would seem to me that RIC will want to have a bass that is highly similar to the one that Paul McCartney received. Having said this, the burning question is whether the 4001C64 will be offered in Fireglo. You can bet that this instrument will be offered for right handers as it would not make any fiscal sense to do otherwise. I am going to guess that most collectors and players will want Paul's Rickenbacker bass in mapleglo and so your fireglo wish may not be realized. I hope I am wrong as the spirit of the C series is that it closely approximates the bass that Paul received.

But from what I've been reading here for the past few days, it will be a McCartney lookalike bass with the shaved down horn, and reversed headstock (even on the right handed model!) My preference would be for a faithful reproduction of a 1964 Rickenbacker bass, WITHOUT Paul McCartney's modifications and with the headstock the way my other Ricks are. I was just over at the A.G.R. site and found this:http://www.rickenbacker.com/us/cseries.htm
which indicates to me that they WILL be issuing
a "new reissue" that is like the 4001v63(4001c64) and also a McCartney reissue(4001c64S).
In short I hope we all get what we want!
I'll bet John Hall is gonna laugh when he reads all these posts :-)

Bassman: Ah, I see what you were saying in your previous post, only now is it beginning to make sense! Yeah, the 4001c64 is what I want, and I'll take mine in Burgandyglo as well. I thought there was gonna only be one bass offered and better chance of getting Fireglo than Burgandyglo. I would like to hear what the specs are on the pickups for these basses- was there ever a "scatterwound" bass pickup or was that only for the Carl Wilson guitars?

So far all available info is dealing with the cosmetic aspect of these basses. How about some info as to the electronics aspect? P/U impedance, gauge wire used for winding, toaster(scatterwound or other), tone cap. on the horseshoe(assuming there was one on Macca's), strung with flatwounds? Changes or same configuration as the 4001v63? Be pretty cool to recreate the sound of a '60's Rick Bass with a new one right out of the case without having to do any modifications. The visual clone just brings it full circle.

It's covered, they aren't just going to re-introduce the V63 for over a thousand dollars more. The idea of this series is to reproduce exactly what was issued almost 40 years ago, as close as it possibly can be done.

Thanks Nick. I'm greatly looking forward to a hands on encounter!

Nick! Are you kidding me? During MMT McCartney copyrighted the rustoleum artwork during a LSD induced moment of creativity? If I am correct, didn't that paint job happen in 1967? I would hate to think that he copyrighted the paint job and then ignored the fact that he and John could have purchased Northern Songs around the same time.

Paul! Just say no!

OUCH, A thousand dollars more and there'll be a lotta yard sales with v63s, I'll wager...
But my guess is that these basses will be priced below what a real one(circa 64) would go for...
That could still mean they are frightfully expensive, but you probably won't see an example sitting in every Guitar Center across America, like you could do with the v63...
It will probably also mean that the pickups will be truer to the old toaster and horseshoe, and not be really as versatile as the v63's pickups, (which are really quite nice, they just don't bear much resemblance soundwise to the original).
What about the truss rod system? Will that be "vintage" as well?

Squirebass: I would gather that the truss rod system will be state of the art. I can't imagine RIC going back to the old system and, for the money, bassists would want to use round wounds too.

Brian, artwork is different issue all together, trust me. You can't repro something as identifiable as that and not pay the consequences after. I know that Mr. Hall did toy with the idea of doing it, but it will never happen unless Sir Paul gets on board.

By the way, I forgot mention that the list on the basic C64 is $2999 and $3199 on the C64S.

If it has a scatterwound toaster and a horseshoe in which the horseshoes ARE the magnets and it is like the original then the c64 should sound just the same as a real '64.

I'm dying to see the new specs to see how close it really is. Will it have a volute?

For comparison with the 4001C64, I thought that this 1963 4001 Fireglo bass might be interesting to see.
