Question about 650D pick-ups

Anyone know what the D.C. ohm resistance output is supposed to be for the humbuckers on the 650 Dakota? I have a volt/ohm meter; how do I check for the resistance on my pick-ups?

Measured in circuit with the volume control wide open, mine measured 14.72K bridge, 14.59K neck. That was on my 4004, same pickups as the 650. Plug in your instrument cable and take a reading by connecting the meter leads to the tip and sleeve of the connector.

Well I don't know if I should worry about the quality of my humbuckers on my 650, but I read 6.53K on each of them!!?? Mind you it's a 92 and they could have manufacture the pups differently!?

Dan, mine were '93s and were not made any different from the earlier ones. No offense but I can't see any way that your reading could be correct. It sounds like a reading at the switch where they would be in parallel and the reading would be approximately half. Did you measure them the same way I did, at full volume and at the cable end?

Dannyboy: I would love to hear your 650D. Why not stop it by. I am surprised at your K ohm reading on your pickups. Ratings around 14 K ohms are more typical.

Maybe I'm taking my reading at the wrong place...
What do you mean by cable end...what I did was plug my cable in the guitar and take the reading at the other end with the volume at full and the switch in the bridge or neck position.???

Dan, you just plug your instrument cable into the guitar, leave the other end of the cable unplugged, and take your readings by touching the tip and sleeve of that unplugged end.

Dave-- Thanks for the info. However, the pick-ups are currently out of the guitar as I'm having some bodywork done. How can I check the D.C. resistance readings this way?

Dave, I've just checked my pick-ups at the source... the bridge pup reads 12.48K and the neck one reads 12.52K. I found out, after speaking to Peter, that there are resistor caps between the volume pots and the pup! That's where I'm loosing power( in a way of speech )!!

Now, for a more serious question, would it make a big difference in sound if I got rid of those caps??? ( what would that affect??? )

Dan: The .047 mfd capacitors are soldered to the bass and treble pots. You can see the circuit here.I would leave these alone as removing them will change the tonality of your guitar considerably. BTW, having had the good fortune to play your 650 last week, I am on rock solid ground when I say that there is nothing wrong with the quality of your RIC humbuckers!
