Colin Pattenden of Manfred Mann’s Earth Band played a standard JG 4001 (circa 1971). Around 1972 Colin had an engraved aluminum pickguard made for it by Danny O’Brien. Danny was famous for his work on the original Zemaitis Guitars. I played it on occasion, and was always amazed at the beauty of the pickguard. Here’s two pics. Duncan Sanderson of the Pink Fairies also played a JG 4001 (circa 1970). One of my favs at the time, they were known for playing free gigs! The band often played with Hawkwind on the same bill, even exchanging members over time. IMHO... Duncan turned Lemmy on to Rickenbacker basses. Here are the only two pics I could find with the Ric. The first I scanned off the second LP "What A Bunch Of Sweeties", and it clearly shows the headstock with flat Grovers. The second is live (circa 1971).
