When I saw the Roll the Bones tour in Philadelphia, Vinnie Moore opened for them.

I've tried to listen carefully on a few occassions, comparing the bass tone of Red Barchetta and Camera Eye and *think* I can tell the difference with those tunes the rest of the songs, the Jazz having slightly less definition (flabby?) but overall the overdriven sort of quality to the tones are similar.

I do think that Geddy's bass tone was perfected on the Signals album, and I understand most of that was the Ric. There is still a nice grinding quality to the tone but more definition and punchiness than on Moving Pictures.

I had a short email exchange with Terry Brown once (related to the audio software company I work for), and part of me is tempted to ask him about getting that certain bass sound but he's probably been hounded about this many times before. Image
