RAS/GAS is highly contaigious!

GAS=Guitar Acquisition Syndrome, I presume. RAS=what? I seem to have MIAS, Musical Instrument Acquisition Syndrome.
I suspect I've got some sort of disease. I've been surfing the web and stashing photos of nice looking Ric 360/12 strings and saving them to a special file folder.
Oh--now the light comes on RAS=Rickenbacker Acquisition Syndrome.
I think I'm gonna be very sick for a long, long time.

It's a delightful malady, Jim!
I have a very bad case of RAS right now too and am loving it.
It does help to have Asperger's Syndrome though, like I do. If you are high-functioning enough, you just get so much more enjoyment out of specific areas of life, and can immerse yourself totally in a number of things at a time (at the expense of the ability to read social cues and have street smarts, and to lack an intuitive understanding of many social skills). Buying, playing regularly, and enjoying my Rickenbackers is one of those highly-intense pleasures.
But I know that at some point, I will begin mixing and matching pieces of my less-collectible Rickenbackers and making custom one-of-a-kind versions. When I tire of one of these "instruments that RIC never made", built free of trademark issues out of all-RIC components, I will sell it on the Forum or on ePlay, buy more Ricks, and do it again.
It is a pattern I have followed with many other talent-interests all my life. Oddball ones like the following: three-gun CRT high-end front projection monitors, antique car and hotrod restoration and limited manufacturing, guitar and bass amplifier and cabinet systems design and manufacture, computerized graphics systems development, circuit design and performance simulation software engineering, non-invasive medical diagnostics imaging and visualization systems design and manufacture, computer and satellite communications systems contract engineering, telecommunications systems development, becoming my own competitive local exchange carrier telephone company, etc etc etc. All lovely and passionate addictions, and all relatively profitable as well as pleasurable.
But for now, it is RAS all the way!!

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and sit in with the band whenever you can, to keep your chops up!
Elys,
You are both blessed and cursed at the same time, but looking on the positive side as I have the propensity to do, you have obviously overcome the challenges associated with AS and have discovered how to use your talents with a sense of joy. I tip my hat to you. May your love of all things Rickenbacker in particular, become a constant in your life.
