Early 4001 V63 question.

I'm confused about this one. Did any early (1992/3) 4001 V63s have a high gain neck PUP, raised letter TRCs or one piece bridge cover? Any help appreciated.

That is not a v63. That is a 4003s. You can also tell by the 1" spacing, fat upper horn, and bridge higain.

The v63 began production in '84-'85, so '92 would not be an "early" one.

Thanks for the fast info John. There are so many variations out there - I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't even know they did 4003's without binding.

Has anyone produced a definitive picture library of all the configurations?

Hi Mark,
John's right, also, rear pickup surround would be tapered, rear pickup would a a reissue-Horseshoe, wings are Maple, and would be Walnut, controls are those usually found on the 4003's , the v63 has the older solid black

Finish looks lovely though !!

Yeah, I liked the deep colour too. I've seen the rickbeat site, which is a vast collection. It seems that the only way to get all the detail is to eek it out bit-by-bit on this, or the Rickenbacker forum.

Also, a V wouldn't have the 19th position marker.

That S pictured above is a very nice bass. While not a V63 it is certainly an excellent example of the S model in FG. Not too shabby!

I personally like the "S" models a lot, and that one above is a beautiful fireglo... There are several regulars around here who specialize in S models, Ed Dupont is one, I can't think of the other one. That is one beautiful bass, Mark, I think fireglo looks especially good on the S model.
