"To get the true "wraparound" magnetic field, you would have to get an original horseshoe with the non-removable wraparound that is actually part of the pickup magnet assembly itself."

Just to clarify, the shoes on the original horseshoe pickups were removable, and WERE the magnet structure.

Also, the metal of the reissue horseshoe pickups do get a little magnetic influence from the pole pieces and play a small part in sensing the string vibrations. No where like the original ones that were magnetized.

I believe the post WW2 lap steel horseshoes are a drop in fit, while the earlier ones were 1/4" larger between the FB and bridge.

Look for an eight string version! Or is there no difference on the pole pieces back then?

Sorry, John, I thought that they were "non-removable" NOT because they were "physically non-removable", but because IF you removed them, then the pickup's response was severely degraded almost to the point of non-existence....

Hence you cannot remove them and still have the system perform as it was intended, and thus "non-removable".

Please forgive me for mis-speaking or being ambiguous on this small detail, it was indeed wrong of me to do so Image

If everyone left their Shoes on, vintage or not then we'd not have this problem. !!

Elys, with the magnetic shoes off, there would be no output to speak of. You are correct.

Jim, it would at least smell better!! :D

To the dismay of many a steel fan, I have ripped apart off my fair share of shoes, then resold the rest back on Ebay. The post WWII shoes are the same ones used on the bass pickups.

If you keep your eyes on Ebay, you can usually find a steel cheap enough to do this with, and then resell. I never paid more than $300.

What a great search, Mark!! Do you think the one that the first guy has, where he says he will entertain a BIN of $600, is even worth $400 with the pickup that scratched or corroded? Or should I offer him $300? Or wait? One of the doubles would net two pickups! Image

Is there ANY news, rumor, hint, glimmer of hope, ANYTHING that would indicate RIC will start selling these again anytime soon?

Nothing lately, Tony. After playing a c64 the other day, I couldn't believe how huge the horseshoe sounded - and I used to own a c64! I wouldt definitley order one of these for my v68 as soon as they came available.

Image Thanks John, I was hoping for some happier news on that front.

I haven't played a C64, so I don't know how they compare, but the HS on my V63 & my CS are just amazing. That V63 just amazes me every time I take her out and let her run.

I'd be in BIG trouble with the boss if they available, I'd have to order no less than three. Image

I really wish I knew why RIC had to force Jason Lollar out of the market. He was after all, producing a very desirable horseshoe for enthusiasts. The price of it alone was more than most fakers cost.

I know the answer really. RIC has no choice in which people to pursue if it wants to maintain correct legal footing. I was just dreaming for a while. (And also happy I got my Lollar delivered just weeks before he was stopped from making them.

Mr. Hall, if you're following this. Was there any attempt to discuss a licensing deal with Jason that could have had him continue that work ?
