London

Post by rickde »

I'm heading to London on the 5th of September. They have a great bass store called The Bass Celler. They use to have a Ric 8 string bass. Is anyone in here from London? Do you know whether or not that shop still has that 4003/S8?

Hey Rick, im a Londoner -

No the bass cellar dosent have that bass - in fact no Rickenbackers, never does. Nowhere has any RickenbackersImage

There are a couple of stores on Denmark street than sometimes have a couple, theres one bass only store than always has one of two brand new 4003's in the window taking pride of place - they usually sit there for ever.

Music ground always has like 3 old Rick basses - i bought my 1991 white with black trim 4003 there.

They tried to tell me it was an 87 4001 (?)...so its not like they know what they are talking about.

Rickenbackers are EXPENSIVE here...i paid £900 for mine..... thats $1425 for a nice but not mint 90's bass

Hmmmm.... I thought I saw it there. It could have been in the shop to the right of the bass celler as you face it from Denmark St. They had mostly guitars, but they had a nice 4003/S8. I'm thinking they still have the thing, unless some rock star bought it, because it was priced outrageously.

Whenever I get back to the U.K. I go looking for stuff. I was there 6 weeks ago and it was very thin on the ground. I saw a mid 70,s 4001 and a 4000 in Denmark St. They wanted 1200 pounds (approx $1900) for the 4001 and the 4000 didn,t have a price on it. Across the road from Andy,s and down a little is a cool place that has a lot of old stuff. I,ve seen Rics in there before, but very expensive, like most of the U.K...However, there are still bargains out there. I found a 73 fretless in the classifieds there, that I bought last weekend (with a little help from friends) for 600 pounds. All the vintage appointments and fireglo. The problem is I don,t know when I,m going to get back there next to see it......

Just stay away from a store called Vintage FX land. They promised to sell me and ship two horseshoe pickups. When I e-mailed back to get particulars they claimed they were sold.

This was after the owner had promised to hold them for me :-(

I just bought a terrific 360 CW from Mike - a super experience all around. He mentioned that if I gave him advanced notice, he could meet me to see some of the gear he has.

For some reason this got posted twice and I can't delete it so here it is again.... I just got an email back from Mike (Rics R Us). I asked if he could find me a 4003/S8. He said he could for the low low price of 1750 pounds. Geeeze; that's like 2800 dollars.
