Anyone use acoustic bass heads? model 360 inquiry

I was wondering if the the acoustic control corp model 360 bass head is just a preamp or whether it also has a power amp too? And if anyone is using it, how do you like it?

I "think" the 370 was the preamp with the folded horn bottom-or was it the other way around...

I believe the 360 is what Jaco used. It is a power amp.

It is a preamp, the cabinet (361) had the 18" speaker and a poweramp.

360 was reissued at least for a while and IIRC it had both the preamp and the poweramp in the head.

Yes, a preamp. I had one of those in the 70's. You could actually plug straight into the 361 cabinet and play - just use the controls on the bass. I did it at a gig once just for the heck of it.

So now if i wanted the 360 but didn't want to use the 361 cabinet that has the power amp in it, I would just have to get a separate power amp for the 360 to connect to, correct? Sorry, I've never dealt with separate preamp and poweramps before. Thanks for help though guys!!

Yes Wesley that is correct.
The original 360 was a pre-amp only.
So... power amp and speaker cab of your choice and you are good to go.
A pair of the Acoustic 361 powered cabs for the neck pup and a Marshall 100 watter into a 4x12 for the bridge pup (running in stereo) would get you what I used to run in the early '70's.

lol..true...I have a 370 thats both pre an power,and while in Baltimore I use a 220..kinda rare,same as the 370 only the eq is for mids as well as lows..The 370 is a eq for the low end..I use either one or two Ampeg 4 10s with it...I love it!

I'd still love to find one of their old 408's(4x15) configured in two isobarik style chambers, way ahead of its time back in the early 70's. This cabinet had a warning label on the back:

Warning-Sound levels may exceed 120db within 10 feet of this enclosure

This cabinet is a little larger than an Ampeg 8x10, and will take your average 8x10 and eat it for lunch, it's a monster to move though.

I used an Acoustic 320 for several years. It was a nice amp (I liked the dual inputs) but just did not have the sound I was looking for. All in all it was well built and very reliable.
