Flat 12s strings

Post by rick_lover »

Hi, this might have been posted a thousand times before, but here it's again:
I am owning a 620/12 MG for a year now, but i still don't know, which strings to put on it.
1. I've tried the RIC 10s ground wound strings, I think, they were on it when it arrived, but they were not intonating very well (especially not on the G pair)
2. I've tried Pyrmid flats which intonated perfectly and are quite cheap for me, as I'm living in Germany.
3. I've tried D'Angelico Soul Rock's which are 9's, but don't intonate well, too.

So, I am pleased with the Pyramids, but I want a set, that's not so thick as pyramids. I.e. 9's

Any comments?

Howdy Flo; I've used Pyramids on my Ric 12 string guitars too, however, I eliminated the top heavy guage set and moved all the other strings up one set at a time, then put 9's in the High e (frist) position. This worked very well, but you will have to make adjustments to the action and string height. Hope this helps! AL A.

I'll try it.

I use only Pyramid flatwounds (.010's) on my '67 360/12 and tune down a half step. To me, this is the perfect Rickenbacker 12-string sound - easy to play, too!
