Hmm...Sort of like everyone did...back then.

It's funny The Beatles had there guitar amps on stands but not there guitars.

Jerry - I have one of those metal wingnut stands too... somewhere. There are of course much better designs out now but at least the wingnut model folded up into a small package which is more I can say for many of the stands that came out over the years.

These days Fender makes one similar to the original wingnut and it's easy to port a few of them around to a gig.

Fender makes a highly portable folding stand but it doesn't include a neck brace -- it's just a small tripod with a rubber bumper that supports the back of the body. It is stable, however, doesn't scratch the guitar, and takes up a smaller footprint than the tubular stands we all know.
