Oh, USPS. NOPE.

I refuse to use them. I've lost so many packages through them including a Digi002 system where the box was opened up and the contents stolen. Yes, the USPS did this and all they did was send me the label for the OUTSIDE wrapper and say, sorry, not our problem. No insurance? Too bad. Obviously someone got into it.

I wouldn't use USPS either, the insurance is worthless once it leaves the US.

Edgar, you know what you could do?

Charge him the rate Fedex is giving you,if it comes out less after the package is sent, refund the difference.

I've shipped Fedex before and it does sound a little high IMO. Which service are you using?They have a service that takes 4-5 businessdays, but the cost is less.

Marc,

The only one that showed up when I entered the information for March 17th shipping was Economy and hence the price I posted earlier.

I'm going to do that. Refund the difference once it ships. I know it makes me feel better.

I just checked on Fedex.com

A package 40 lbs, dimensions 52 x 10 x 20 with an insured value of $5700, shipping from Seattle to Scotland(I didn't know final destination) was $398 economy.

We'll see what happens. I guess it's been a long time since I shipped overseas and many of the carriers have taken advantage of rising fuel costs to increase profits.

I sent a guitar last year via USPS from South Carolina to Scotland. Price? $80.00 I had to go to two different Post Offices just to get them to send it but it worked. Not sure if a bass would fit into their size restrictions.

I have had about 30 guitars and basses come in using USPS, never had any trouble yet (famous last words, eh!)

I used USPS to ship a 4001 from California to Canada, the combined sizes of the box were right at the limit for USPS but they took the package and it arrived safe at its destination.

I sent my ATA case (30lbs) to Canada via USPS for $45, and it came back another 10lbs heavier for about $85 CND.

Must be the dimensions or the weight you're putting in.

I listed it as 40lbs, 52x10x20 package, and I get
$398.96 with ins and fuel surcharge. Oh, but I also input you would drop off at a Fedex staffed location, that might make a difference.

Let's just hope the guy gets the bass safely, and you get your 4005wb back asap as well...
Hopefully it's less, and the guy gets a couple of bucks back.

Edgar....have you contacted the seller about shipping choices. He/She may want it shipped faster....even at a premium. When I shipped my LK back to Ric for warranty work I paid for overnight which was $250-ish each way. I did that just so it would be "in harm's way" for as little time as possible. It was worth every penny. This may be an option to consider for safety's sake. Apparently the buyer wants it pretty bad so the extra expense may be worthwhile.

Sorry to throw another thought into the mix!

The first V63 (a lovely '91)I bought was sent from the US via USPS to the UK....and was never seen again. It also took me a year to get my money back, and due to changing exchange rates I lost £200 (approx $400) into the bargain.
