my ex-girlfriend used to refer to both anderson and geddy (i listened to a lot of rush and yes) as "the squealin' weasel people"...and i could kind of see it regarding the ged...but mostly i loved the bands for their original approach to making music...

Geddy rules, I love his basstone then and now, and also like his singing. I try to duplicate him with basspedals and synth, but it became a mess with me. It's so awsome what he does. Yep, he is truly unique! Oh, and I love the voice of Jon Anderson, I'm a long time time Yesfan.
Beside owning 14 guitars and basses and my own homestudio, what do I want more?

Ted, on my unofficial double neck database, I have a total (4080, 4080/12 and 362/12) of 51 units that I know of. My 7th will show up later this week. Image

That is a hot rendition of a hot tune! Image

I was very into Rush and Yes as a teen, and yes, both Squire and Lee influenced my choice of bass (McCartney, also)...as the years passed I started to find their work perhaps a little "uppity"...

But over the last couple years I've sort of re-discovered both bands. It's been a pleasure, almost like hearing all those tunes for the first time. Image

Speaking of Geddy, has anyone seen the commercial for ESPN Fantasy Baseball that is running right now? He makes a cameo right at the very end of it. Funny!
I'm glad they are letting their sense of humor show more as they get older.

I have the dvd where Geddy plays the 4080 ... but I never see him play the guitar neck ... it kind of makes me think the 4080 was more for show than for sound ... they wanted the visual of 2 guys with 2 doublenecked guitars ...

"kind of makes me think the 4080 was more for show than for sound"

IIRC he once explained in an interview that in the studio he got more sustain out of his bass than he got on stage, so he plays the double-neck for the added mass and sustain. Maybe he was rationalizing or intellectualizing, I dunno.

Didn’t Geddy, (on Xanadu), play the 12 string and Taurus Pedals during Alex’s guitar solo?

That’s how I remember it when I saw them live back in the day.

I think he played the 12 string neck at the very end of Xanadu.

Dave, you are correct. Geddy played 12-string at the end of Xanadu, under Alex's solo and the little descending figure over Alex's picking. This is a major reason why I am trying to find a 4080/12 as one of my bands does Xanadu. He also played it under Alex's solo in Bangkok.

The way ESL is filmed, I don't think you see him play it (apart from the last chord). I certainly don't think it was for show - I get the impression that he was happy to ditch it.

He may be a squealing weasel, but what a freaking talented squealing weasel! For me, he can sound however the heck he wants if he plays bass that well and writes music that good.

Yeah, he's playing the 12-string neck at the end of "Xanadu" during the guitar solo and then while Alex does that little outro thing on his 12-string neck. The bass there is all Taurus.

He once said that it was giving him a stooped shoulder. I imagine it was pretty heavy to play on a continual basis. One bass neck is plenty for me.
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again

Here's an interesting story regarding Geddy and the 4080 from a source in the Toronto music scene.
At some point Rush supposedly donated much of their old equipment to the Canadian "Museum of Civilization" in Hull Quebec as a tax write-off. Included in this were Geddy's double-necks. When the 30th anniversary tour came around, Geddy was going to use a double-neck but couldn't get one released by the museum. He allegedly went so far as contacting RIC to see if a replacement could be built in time, but that didn't transpire.
I have no idea if any of this is true, so take this with a HUGE grain of salt!

Hehe - in the interview I read with Geddy about Xanadu on the R30 tour, he said he didn't bring the doubleneck because it was in a museum and he was quite happy to leave it there. He neglected to mention the 4080MG that he still appeared to have in the basement a few years ago.
