Whats firing your engine ?

Post by legobeast »

Are Rick players vintage heads ? or are some people using modern amps and effects .. Myself I am using a 2004 330x12 with high-gains into a Maxon Compandor, Ross distortion, Wem ic400 Copicat into a Reslo class A valve amp from 1962 and a Wem 1x12 speaker cab with a famous lineage and a goodmans speaker. I have found the sound I heard in my head for all those years....

I run my V-series Rics through an Aphex Punch Factory optical compressor, a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, a Tech 21 Double Drive, and two BBE pedal, the Sonic Stomp and Boosta Grande.

In a day or two that signal path will include a Fender Super Sonic (hurry!!!).

I'm not a vintage head, I use a non-curly cable.

And an old Ampeg V-4.

Guitars:
330, 360/12v64, 660/12 ->

Effect path:
Boss TU-2 ->
Ibanez TS-9 Analogman Classic Mod ->
Prescription Electronics Yardbox ->
Janglebox ->
Electro-Harmonix Small Stone ->
Boss PS-3 Pitch Shifter/Delay ->
Loooper Custom A/B/Y box ->

Amps:
Mesa Maverick 2x12 combo/Vox AC-30 CC2 2x12 combo

I'd say it's all modern stuff in attempt to approximate classic sounds, but with some added modern reliability.

Custom 4008,4004 and doubleneck 3000(bass&guitar).All wired for stereo. On channel 1 I have the neck pickups of the 4008,4004 and bass neck of doubleneck. On channel 2 I have the bridge pickups of the 4008,4004 and guitar neck of the doubleneck. Channel 1 is routed via a BOSS FS6 to a BOSS ME-50B and then to Channel 1 of an Ampeg PortaBass 800. Channel 2 is routed by the BOSS FS6 to a BOSS ME-50 then to channel 2 of the PortaBass 800. The PB800 is mono and powers two PortaBass 212 cabs rated at 400 watts each. No coiled cables here either.

Interesting question, Anthony!

I run my basses through a Trace Elliot 1 x 15 250W combo with a 2 x 10 + tweeters ext cab. No effects.

15 - 20 years ago this was a rather hi-tech set up, now I guess it's just out of date...

Nothing fancy,

Mostly play my 1988 V63 & my 2006 4003 Monty with an Ampeg B2R into an Ampeg 4x10 clean. SOMETIMES, I'll use a Sansamp DX box, but that's it!

Same here, Tony, pretty simple stuff for myself. Having read some of these posts I wondered, is there a guitar in there somewhere? But each to their own.

Glad I'm not alone Stan!

I don't know, I guess I'm just getting old. I like to travel light! Image

660DCM into an early '70s Princeton Reverb.

All my basses (three Ricks, one each Fender, Zon, Rick Turner, Yamaha) into either '01 Walter Woods Super Hi Power Electacoustic amp through two '60s Traynor YS-15 cabinets, SWR Baby Blue II combo, Ampeg PB-250 into a custom 1-10 EV cabinet.

My 4001 and 4003 go straight into either an Ampeg B100R or an SVT 350 w/ a 68 Sunn 215 cab which I bought as a wreck and hot-rodded. Sometimes I use a Fulltone bass drive and/or an EH Bassballs Russian-made. The Bassballs sounds really nice with the Rick when I run it through the effects loop on the SVT 350.

350V63, 660/12, 620/6 through a Diamond compressor, into one of Vox AD120VTH/2xAD212/VC-12 with a stereo 31 band EQ in the effects loop (main goto rig), or a Vox AC15CC1, or a Gerd Weigel Custom Overdrive 1X12 combo, with the occasional side trip through a Tonelab or Rocktron Banshee to the PA.

My 370/12 RM through a JangleBox into my silverface Deluxe Reverb for recording. My 360/12 through the JangleBox and a DOD FX65 chorus into the Deluxe for playing live gigs.
