A new aquisition and a comparison of finishes
so i snagged a '77 Autumnglo in need of a little TLC. thanks to Tony, the replacement knobs are on their way, but if anyone has an old tailpiece and bridge, please, do get in touch!)
i would classify the finish as Autumnglo, though it is 'glossy'. compared to my Walnut of an approx. vintage, '80, there is a striking difference in finish. The Autumn is almost Montazuma, the Walnut quite orange. how would you classify the finishes?

I agree with Dave.
Honestly I haven't seen enough AG and Walnut finishes to be of much critical assistance. But they are both beautiful. The AG will look great with the correct bridge...

Those Badass setups where they plug an unfinished slab of wood into these fine 70's 4001's just mystifies me. My '72 Burgundyglo lived that life for awhile, but it sure looks better now with the '76 tailpiece I cadged recently... My way of saying I would trade my tailpiece, but only for an earlier one!
Those basses look like real players. Hope you find what you need.

Thanks Rikk.
Mark, i am definitely looking to replace the bridge and tailpiece with a stock 70's (hint hint everybody).
yes, they are both players. i have a mint '79 MG and a white '75 in great condition as well. as it sounds like my band will be touring again; i thought a should have a couple to play anda couple to preserve.

gloss under the TRC; guess they are both walnut. very different shades thereof, within a 3 year span.
though, IIRC, the seller of the lighter bass, was the widow of the orig. owner. she stated on the ebay ad, that it was a custom finish.wonder if this could be true? or, if it was just how walnut was at that time. anyone have a similar shade as the 'iced-tea'?
