Thomastik-Infeld 12-String Sets [Interest Check]

Post by stuart »

Good day everyone. Those of you who are interested in Thomastik-Infeld flatwound strings know that they do not currently offer a 12-string set in their catalogue. You can put together a custom set through juststrings.com, using the single strings menu, but there is a bit of good news.

If you're a VT member, you might have seen a recent thread talking about the possibility of TI offering a custom 12-string set. It seems they are considering a custom order, giving us the opportunity to select the gauges. It is our hope that this might become a permanent offering in their lineup.

For the order to commence, MikeS (from VT) must order a minimum amount of sets. Therefore, I figured it would be a good idea to bring it up here, as I know some of you have put together your own custom TI 12-string sets. This thread is solely to check interest at the moment, and I will relay the results to Mike.

He isn't sure of the exact price yet, as I'm sure it depends on the amount of sets ordered.

The gauges will most likely be as follows:

E 10P/10P
B 13P/13P
G 23W/10P
D 27W/13P
A 33W/23W
E 39W/27W

The above are the closest gauges, within TI's lineup, to the original Maxima flats made for Rickenbacker (set #483). Those gauges are listed below... (thanks to JH)

E 10P/10P
B 13P/13P
G 22W/10P
D 26W/13P
A 32W/22W
E 38W/26W

Alright, so who is interested? If anymore information becomes available, I'll mirror it here.

Definitely interested.

I'm interested Stuart as long as your talking flatwounds.

TI's flatwounds are the only strings that I use on my Rickenbackers because as we all know there the closest to the original Rickenbacker/Maxima strings.

I hope this works out. I would think that regardless of the amount ordered, the price would still be cheaper than ordering singles like I'm doing know.

Definitely flats. These will be from the Jazz Swing Series that everyone likes. My apologies, I should have denoted that in the first post... but yes, you are correct.

Maxima's were slightly more slinky than TI's. This custom TI set below works excellent and should be closer to the original Maxima tension.

10p - 10p
13p - 13p
20W - 10p
25W - 13p
33W - 20W
39W - 25W

The custom set above is the closest to the original 60's Maxima set AND the current RIC factory 12 string set.

Using larger TI strings than current factory RIC strings may require nut slot filing.

My accountant has advised me to inquire about the price before committing unofficially to any set purchase quantity, but I am definitely interested.
