John Taylor - 4001 Burg?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-recskrzunI
Just found this link from the Fender forum. They think it's a 4003, but is it a 4001 Burg? My sound is down at the moment so I have no idea if he is doing justice to the marque, knowing how he normally plays, I bet it is very good.

But it's not very likely that he played that Rick on the actual recording seeing how he used (and Still uses) Aria pro 2 basses.
(after listening to Taylor's bass sound on this track) Yup that's the sound of an Aria Pro 2 SB1000 bass.

John Taylor is a superbly under-rated bass player. I am no big Duran fan but acknowledge that they have done some good pop songs over the years and have an excellent bass player. He is from the Bernard Edwards (Chic - sadly departed) school of playing albeit not quite as funky. There cant be many better people to actually admire and to emulate than BE if that is your style. He later on got to actually work with and befriend the man during The Power Station era. I would urge any "rock" fans out there to take a little time out to listen to Bernard Edwards and Chic and hear some bass genius !
My sister was a Duran fan, which meant I got to hear them a lot. Didn't take me long to notice that many of the basslines were actually quite good. I learned a few, which certainly impressed the local girls more than playing a few Rush basslines did!

Nope, Bernard Edwards gave him a Stingray. Let me re-phrase, he gave him THE stingray.
Taylor Does endorse Peavey amps and plays a five string Cirrus but he also has his own signature Aria Pro 2 model.

The Aria Pro 2 John Taylor signature bass.
