Today, I was driving to work and I heard the studio version of the Jayhawks "Stumbling through the Dark" on the radio - a Rickenbacker 12 clearly jangling away.
Looked it up on YouTube, and found a live clip and there it was , a Rick 330/12 jangling away!
Love the Jayhawks -- another great Minneapolis band that made great music and had true talent. Their performance on Austin City Limits was great, too. Wish I had an opportunity to have seen them live.
That's my neck of the woods and a band I used to know pretty well--we played the same bars in the 80's.
Not the 80's we usually envision. Minneapolis offered a lot of variety. The Jayhawks were nice guys and played really enjoyable gigs, stellar nights, with those soaring high harmonies up close and loud in the 400 Bar on the West Bank. That was always a great place to be. They were gangly and kind of geeky but cool, in flannel shirts and jeans, and women just demonstratively loved them.
I'm so glad they made it big and experienced success and stardom, because they earned our everlasting respect back then; just for being honest, down to earth songwriters and performers. They're the good guys.
