Happy with just one...some call this mecurichrome glo, but I think it's a pretty nice FG:

The picture really doesn't do the bass justice, but it is a pinkish FG. I've hemmed and hawed about doing dual concentrics, but I'm pretty happy with the stock set up. Especially now with my new Low Down Sound 4x8 cab, that really allows the bridge pu to hold it's own more, and I get a pretty distinct tone from all three switch positions.

Next $$ to spend on gear will be a better amp head.

Ohhh....I'm downsizing my rig and have been considering an LDS 2x8 and some sort of single 12". How do you like the LDS 8's?

Downsizing? Oh, that's right, you are now bandless, so that makes sense. Buy Marc's Walter Woods for a nice compact amp.

The LDS 4x8 packs a punch. It's fairly bright, as one would expect, but it does have a good solid bottom. Only used it once with the drummer (we've been having schedule issues) and it did just fine. The 2x8 with something larger to re-inforce it should make a nice rig.

One of the best things for me about this cab is it fits in my trunk. The Carvin 2x10 is about a 1/4" too tall to fit, so I always had to finagle it in the back seat of my Corolla. This fits in nice inside the trunk with plenty of room still for my amp and the bag of cables - plus more **** if I needed it.

I still haven't played the J bass through it yet. Image I'm sure it will sound great with a fretless with flats!

"I wonder how the new owner likes my Cii/TG?"

Still looking for the right flat string for this baby...My beloved SS/Chromes haven't come through for me....they sound kind of muddy with those p/u's. I had to make a huge t/r adjustment for the TI flats and they don't have the punch I'm looking for. I'm caught in the weird position of having to go beyond my comfort zone and try (gulp) a different brand of string! It's been soooo long since I've tried any other set of flats than either of those, I'm not sure where to turn... any suggestions on another brand of flats to use with the hb's? (Sorry Mark...didn't mean to 'jack your thread...sometimes it just happens) Image

Since it's not my money, I am wondering what the half rounds would do for you.

Flats may not be the best for those HB-1s. Perhaps the TI Jazz Rounds might work. They have a much smoother feel than other RW strings, are really low in tension and should have the brightness you need. Of course, you can always toast(er) the pickups!

Chris.....I loved that Cii/TG for lots of reasons but I was never able to get a good "zing" out of it unless I used rounds. That's one reason I prefer the Laredo now with it's bright leanings compared to the Cii. For strings I really like the Labella Deep Talkin' Flats. They seem to be a little brighter than the Chromes. Don't drop the $40 on just my opinion though. Image

Sorry the Cii isn't giving you what you need.

Jeff....I have two more shows before I'm bandless so my Mesa Diesel 2x10 and 2-1x15's with Ampeg SVP-Pro and 1000 watt power amp are hanging in just a little longer. I may have to get in touch with Marc though.

Thanks for the info Ed. I may have to make a road trip to Detroit soon to check out some LDS cabinets and see for myself.

Brian - you are close enough to make the trip, call first to see what Don has, though. He had to make my cab for me, so I'm guessing that most of his work is for custom orders.

Pricing info he gave me was $329 for a 2x8 and $429 for the 4x8, which seemed like a good price. The drivers are eminence, very solidly put together. Came with removable castors (not sure you'd need for the 2x8). Overall dimensions are roughly 20" x 20" x 16", weighs about 60 lbs. A bit heavier than my 2x10, but no much, and a more convenient size to lift.

Nice trio of 4004's there Brian. Image

HB1's and DR Hi Beams were made for each other, very synergistic!
