the pix is a little fuzzy, but it does appear to be a Rick copy.
Gee... they go to all that trouble to get on stage and the use imitation Rickenbackers? .... pathetic.

Well, maybe not everyone can afford authentic instruments. And maybe not every "Paul" can be left handed. Just enjoy the experience. If they sound like them, ENJOY THEM! Don't call them pathetic!

Sorry, I mean no disrespect...I'm drunk. At least heed my words. Image

haaaa... hi Brian, no offense taken, but check out the photo....

they're playing in what looks to be a professional venue, they've got what look like decent amps, a nice keyboard, sound system, and even groovy Beatle suits!

.... and he has the nerve to show up with a RIC knockoff? Hmmmm. I think "pathetic" is exactly the right word for this situation.

None of the guitar were right that now. other than the Rickenfakes he had a Red Epiphone Dot, "George" was using an ES-335 from the 70's, Paul had an Epi violin bass, and one of those Rick 4003's wit the A and D tuners aligned.

The costumes weren't perfect. they had collars...

I happened to see this San Diego Beatles tribute band's ad on the Orange County Craigslist; they don't even try to look the part, or use the 'right' guitars (at least the bass player has a Höfner!):

the sounds good but those boys are in some serious need of some Ricks and a Gretsch or two.

My working theory is, they are a relatively new band in the tribute line, so springing 2300$ for a guitar just to get started seems a bit steep. Eventually, I'm sure this poor bloke will get a real Rick, until then, he's got to look the part to get the paychecks to buy the Rick... complicated eh?

My working theory is the reason they dont go for the Ricks and Gretschs has nothing to do with money .... they intentionally look un-Beatle-y so as to avoid any hint of being a Beatles imitation band.

IMHO this is a big mistake. Even if you're not a recreation band, part of the fun is to see the music played on the original instruments. Besides, the Ricks sound better than whatever it is those guys a playing.

I'm gonna have to blow your working theory as being completely wrong, though plausible for another band (like mine for example), not this one.

the name of the band is Help! their poster says "Beatles Tribute band" The drummer had a ludwig kit like Ringo, they wore the Beatles suits, they even had SGt. Pepper Suits.

If they were really going for a "not an imitation band" they've got several steps to go through before worrying about the guitars.

I'm still fairly certain it's a $$$ thing, at about 2300$ each, 325 don'T come cheap and these guys are fairly new in the game. It's not their day job, I'm sure the gear will follow once they get the cash for it. until then, they were great players, and I find that to be the most important part. Everyone there had a great time.

As far as not wanting to be seen as an imitation band, I was referring to these guys:

As for the guy with the Tokai, you may be right about the $$$ .... although if that is the case, what they should have done is delayed getting the suits and invested that money towards Ricks and Gretschs instead of cheap knockoff guitars. Going on stage with a Tokai "Rick" just aint classy no matter how big or small your checking account happens to be. But thats just MHO Image
