John Lennon Called Me Normal

Post by mgauction »

I got this advance copy today, personalized to me. Norman "Hurricane" Smith was at a 'Fest For Beatles Fans' in New Jersey this last weekend. Anyone else out there start reading this? I've been waiting a year for this release. A perfect flying companion for my week trip to Hawaii tomorrow

Aloha!

Honestly......I'm on a beach in Hawaii and it's tough to pull myself into a book. Just finished another book on the flight here. Now I'll get on it.

Life's tough, Mike, but you got to do, what you got to doImage

But I would be interested in knowing what folks think before I order, provided there are any copies left to purchase.

It's a very interesting read so far....his style of writing is very much like speaking....more of a random style compared to other "polished" works.

Do you like it better than Geoff Emerick's book?

A lot of people didn't like Emerick's book because of his negativity, but I figured it was his story and he had every right to report on his version. I didn't get hung up on the negative stories and I found it an enjoyable book.

...Smith comes across with much more of a sense of humor than Emerick. Smith just seems much more casual and a happier fellow. This is the first edition, and it looks like it might need a last round of editing.

NOTE: Still only a couple chapters into it though....

Just finished it off. Very interesting read but very eclectic. Like if you had a tape recorder and recorded your grandpa's stories from all of his life and just transcribed them into a book...that's kind of how it reads.

But he seems like a very fascinating guy who covered so many things in his life - war pilot, hit singles in his 40's, engineering the Beatles, producing Pink Floyd, etc. I never really knew much about Smith other than some quotes here and there...so I'd say this was a good piece of the Beatles puzzle.

Just back from Hawaii with a sizeable hamstring injury (serves me right for trying to surf again). I'll get to it now. Thanks for the heads-up, Alisha!

Very nice of you to think of me like that, Alisha. I grew up in So. Cal. (Long Beach), so the water experience. Perhaps more appropriate like a jackass........
