I absolutely love playing Merle Travis stuff on my '65 360. Merle used some pretty unique chord fingerings that are more easily accomplished on a narrow neck. This makes a 360 ideal for this kind of thing.

I don't use a thumb pick, but rather a hybrid picking style a la Danny Gatton where I hold a pick between thumb and index finger and use the remaining fingers for picking. This would get me publicly flogged at the Chet Atkins convention, but it works for me.

Ah! I've been thinking of someday purchasing a 360/6 to indulge my finger picking style. Both Chet and Merle (and by extension, Doc Watson) are two of my guitar heroes. Although most well known for his tasteful flat picking, Doc is an amazing finger picker, too.

Yeah, MT did use some interesting chord shapes in developing his arrangements. What fun.

JimK, definitely give it a go on a 360/6! The neck pup has a nice bell-like tone. Different than the usual Gibsons or Gretsches that you usually hear on Chet or MT tunes.

BTW- I'm working on the Cannon Ball Rag, but don't have it up to speed yet.

James, Cannonball Rag is a real piece of guitar picking. The chord positions are pretty simple, and the progression is the standard I, VI7, II7, V7, I that is so typical of the genre. But it's fast.
