NEED speaker help

Bob, I don't know about Ampeg's philosophy these days about amp power to speaker power handling, but my older son has an SVT4-PRO (tube preamp, SS power amp) that's 1200 watts at 4 ohms bridged. I don't think they have a cab that will handle 1800 watts RMS! Even their PR-810H is rated at 1200W RMS.
And a little side note for you: I have his SVT4-PRO here while he's in Korea for the next year. It is nowhere near as loud as my (all tube) Mesa Bass 400+. The Mesa wins, hands down, despite having 12 5881s rated at 300W RMS. Tube power still rules.

The Mesa is lighter than an SVT. The boxed weight is 52 lbs. according to the factory. But of course that's not in an enclosure. I have mine the Tolex-covered wooden 4 1/2 space Mesa enclosure designed for it. I'd guess it's about 70 lbs. total.
I've never tried the Trace, only seen one once. Sure would like to have my old Sunn back, though.

Dane Aceonbass,
Now and then there's a fool such as I. I apologize for my mistake. The Toni Fisher/Wayne Shanklin recording of The Big Hurt is awesome in every way, and credit should go where credit is due. I hear that on radio sometimes and it still blows me away. I'd love to know how people reacted to it (other than making #2)in the early '60's!

Apology accepted. Hey,it's obvious why I know about the song but who else would really? It's been a very long time and all I remember was my grandmother(Wayne's sister) going "Cha Ching!" every time she heard one of his songs on the radio. Because she fronted him the cash for his first demo, he cut her in for life, or so she thought, on a percentage but there hangs another tale for another time....
