1973 Azureglo 4001

Post by markbass99 »

You know, I'm a small time rick collector, I've got nothing on some of the major league guys like Pascoe, Rand, or Gallo Image. I thought I was going to have to get Paul W. to do a refin for me to get one of these in my collection (of strictly vintage 73 4001's) but I stumbled across this one before Paul fired up the spray gun. This is an ME s/n in good condition and it plays great now that I've reworked the trussrods and tweaked the setup. So now the one I sent Paul is going to be sprayed white, that ought to look pretty cool too(w/checker binding).

Love it Mark! There can't be many of these out there.

If you don't mind my asking, where'd you find it?

Nice one, Mark! I have a '72 but yours is in better shape than mine. I like it the way it is. Azureglo is a difficult find on its own, let alone with checkerboard binding.

John, this is one of the few I didn't get through ebay, it was sort of the "somebody who knows somebody who knows where something's at" transactions. As my collection tightens up and my next ones become more dependant on month and color that's going to be the predominate method I think. So far I haven't paid over 3K for any of mine and this one came in around 2K but I think those days are over for future checkerboards. The one I sent Paul for refin will be around 3K when it's all said and done but's it's going to look like a 73 that came to the future through a time machine- sweet.

And I would have been happy with a refinned azure, Paul's doing a 67 for Bob Combs right now that's going to look amazing.

Beautiful bass, I love seeing Azureglos with all the cool binding and inlays 'cause they are so rare! But I didn't know that Earnest and Julio Gallo were Rick collectors, its a shame that they don't ever post here!
