RICs on eBay
Moderators: rickenbrother, ajish4
As long as there's a backlog, there will be high prices for used Rick's. This makes them hot right now, with prices likely to fall as the backlog diminishes. Classic supply and demand. Since buying guitar can be very emotional, one will look to any means to acquire one. Waiting a year or more may be too long for many.

Your right on the neck width I just got a 1998 360/12 and its identical width to my friends 2005 last mapleglo with out the cut head stock. He got it used from a shop and I got the 98 on ebay recently. I think we both got deals and they both have the old head stock.
Got to start with one make it a 360/12.
MSRP is one thing, but I haven't found an online dealer that doesn't undercut that figure by several hundred dollars thus making the used Rics on eBay about the same price as a new one from one of the high volume dealers advertising on the web.
Perhaps the difference with me is that I have my eye on one of the more high demand Rics, and thus more plentiful guitars, a 360/12. And I'm not in it for the collector value, but I intend for that guitar to be a real workhorse. I hope I'll be gigging with it a lot. Otherwise, there's no justification in my mind to spend such a large amount of money on what to me is a tool of my trade. You want quality workmanship in your tools? You pay for it. It's OK with me.
And we're all agreed on this forum; nothing else sounds like a Rickenbacker. Accept no substitutions.
