Nice try, Steve! Image

We're pretty close to the norm. The only thing we are guilty of is changing the 'er' at the end to 'ah'.... as in 'Rickenbackah'!

I pronounced it the German way my entire RIC-aware life until the 75th when I heard people pronouncing it the Anglicized way.

"Eh, what? When did THAT happen?" I asked myself since everyone I ever knew that knew about guitars and even owned a Rick or two had pronounced it "Rickenbocker."

So, now, I call mine either "the '77" or "the SnotGlo" and "The Abomination" rather than be given a ticket by the Pronunciation Police.
Listen to that sustain!

I will probably never be able to say "back" instead of "bock", but it's okay, because everyone knows what I mean.

When Schwarzenegger begins to accent all words correctly, then I will follow suit.

(Did they used to pronounce it "Ricken-batch-er" in the 30's?)

I'm just sayin'...

In Brasil it gets pretty bowlderized:

HEEK'n BAHK

Rolls Royce, similarly, is "HO HOYSH"

I always refer to my Rickenbacker as the Rickenbacker, the Rick, or the 360. I don't care for Ricky at all, worse yet when a ES335 playing "friend" of mine referred to my 360 as a Crackerboxer, I just about came uncorked, Just ignorance really, he had never played one before, after playing it for a while he admitted it was a damn nice guitar and I politely informed him I didn't want to hear that term again,

For all those driven mad by the abbreviation "Ricky", I ask you to reflect on my situation and consider yourselves lucky ...
I'm British.
I live in Germany.
In order for Germans to understand me when I say "Rickenbacker", I have to pronounce this anglicised version of an originally German surname, not with a German accent, not even with an English accent, but with the accent that Germans have when they are pronouncing an English word but not quite really putting in the effort.
As this involves a using a typically German "R" sound, i.e. from the back of the throat, and an exageratedly North American sounding "a" (i.e. quite definitely a German "ä" and quite unnatural for a flat-vowel Yorkshireman), it's quite a pain in the bum!
