The finish definitely seems unusual. The work on the guards and TRC IMO is awesome. Let's hope no one ever parts one out. I'd hate to see what those things would go for.

A little hard to see in this pic, but the emblem is really cool.

I got back from my 3 hour tour to get mine. Cape Cod to Providence in the rain. She's a beauty. The fresh paint smell reminds me of my years as a body man. Absolutely stunning color and mirror finish Eric B, and awesome TRC & PG Paul W. The entire lot associated with this bass are true craftsmen! I love the tone selector and individual pickup pole adjustments. The neck is thicker then my '87, but no problem for my big paws.

My first brand new guitar. Thanks RIC!

Great flake in the headstock

How do you get the pictures bigger, given the size limitations of the forum?? I took these with a low res setting on my digital camera, so they were not huge to begin with, but to get them down to 36k in size is tough!

So, I was afraid to jinx myself by naming my dealer before I got this deal done. Again, I can't say enough about Art from Luca Music in Providence. He worked very hard to get me this bass and was always patient and great to deal with me through this entire process. While other places just didn't want to be bothered, Art gave his all, and we had never met in person until I picked up the bass today. He also gave me a great deal. Give him a try if you're looking for a Rick sometime.

The headstock shape gives it away. The bulbous cresting wave basses have the "thick" neck and the ones with the more vintage look have the thin ones. There are two CNC machines/programs doing the work. RIC is making both types for now.

How can you tell Ted? The headstock? The neck does seem a bit larger than my '87, and I have not played another Rick so I don't know how it compares to newer ones. It is still alot thinner then my P-Bass.

I just gave her a little workout. A few comments...

- I am not used to playing with rounds these days. I'll stick with them for awhile, but may have to throw on some chromes like the other 4003 has.

- The neck pickup sounds fantastic and the sustain is great!

- The bridge pickup seems to be put together a little bit oddly. The G end of the pickup cover is pushed down and if I try to lift it, it seems obvious that the spring is on top on that end of the cover (so it resists being pulled up). The E end is up and cannot be pushed down at all. The pickup itself looks to be sitting lower on the G side.

- The neck pickup seems to have alot more output then the bridge pickup, when I select either one by itself. Maybe the above issue has something to do with this, but the E string sounds weaker then the G string, which goes against how I mentioned it was sitting. I plugged back into my '87 and it sounds more even between the pickups there.

- The bridge itself is not flush to the body and seems to have just a bit of lift. I hope this is not leading to anything in the future. My '87 has the screw modification (not sure if it's factory or not) holding the bridge down, so I really don't have anything to compare this to. Would you expect it to be flush to the body entirely, when viewed from the side?

- Just a great looking instrument. I love it and will get alot of enjoyment out of it I'm sure. The white binding really sticks out, as I'm used to the yellowed and a bit cracked look of my '87. The color combination overall is fantastic.
