Trashing Rics
Why do people trash Ric's on the Ric web site? I understand that not everyone likes Ric basses, but why voice your displeasure on Ric's web site. I have played many basses in my life time and have talked about them on Ric's site. But I have never went to another bass forum and trashed their bass. I really don't like it.
none
My guess is they feel a need to influence other people and especially the RIC organization so they go there (direct contact) to voice their opinions as fact. A lot of lessons to learn yet.
OR, maybe they just have a lot of time on their hands!
Oh, and welcome, Mitch, glad to see you made it over here! Have you got that new 4003LHRS bass yet?

I've heard some people say they don't think Ric basses have enough bottom, or sound "bassy" enough...If that's so, and I let that person come up with a list of their own top 10 bassists, why is it the majority of those players will either play a Ric, or used a Ric at some point in their career?

I've heard people trash Ricks over and over and 99% of what they say is either the result of ignorance, lack of experience or simply a matter of personal taste. Furthermore, a lot of people confuse 4001's and 4003's which causes a whole new realm of difficulties. The only thing I'll give them is that the bridge/tailpiece can be a tricky system to work with if you're inexperienced with the way it works.
One of the things that drives me nuts is when they say that Ricks don't have enough bottom. What?? I guarantee that my 4003 will provide more than enough bottom with my 215, and when I get my other 215 running with the old one, 415's, if my calculations are correct, should set off some car alarms. And what is it, anyway, a contest? So if it's not deep enough, add a sub. Maybe the overall tone of a Rick is so rich that it throws people off.

I think it's true that Ricks have less of a bottom end than many other basses. I can always mess with my amp to make the low tones more powerful, but if I play some of my friends' basses after playing my Rick on the same amp, I do have to turn both the volume and the low end down. In general, I think Ricks have enough bass for most purposes, but to say they are just as bassy as a Warwick Corvette, for example, is just untrue. Of course, I love my Rickenbacker about as much as you could possibly love a piece of wood, so I think it's safe to say that they have more than enough other strengths to make up for a comparatively lesser bottom end.
A little pain never hurt anyone.

Same here, but I'd have it NO other way!
My V63 shakes the building, actually, Jdog commented that he didn't even realize I was playing a RIC! I can get SO many different sounds out of this baby, it's amazing. I can get that classic CLANK and almost every other sound you could want, and I don't use ANY effects!
Welcome Mitch, I'm not familiar with your situation, but I feel your pain. I've had a 4003FL on order for about 15 months. My dealer said it could take quite a while longer before I get it in my hands. Patience is rewarded, I've learned that before. It's worth the wait!

The only time a bass player gets noticed is when he stops playing.

Rics have more bottom than just about any bass I can think off except for certain Gibsons. You need big amps to reproduce it in fact, you are usually limited by the amp as far as bottom goes, not a Ric bass. If people are using a single 15" amp especially with a ported cab, they're not getting all the bottom (usually) that a bass puts out. Not putting them down I have one, just usually is a fact.
