hello everyone. i've never posted here before, but i thought the events of today warranted it. recently i purchased a burgundyglo 360/6VP (the last one in stock, whew!), with the vintage case, of course. my first rickenbacker and i'll never be the same. i'd been saving up for about a year (i'm a college student, so it took a while), and i couldn't have been happier. so right after i got it some friends asked me to join their band playing bass. i did, borrowing a hofner from a friend, since i didn't have a bass. so i've been playing a lot, and saving up again, so today i was able to return the hofner, because i bought a 4003! unbelievably, i found one on ebay that was perfect, with a vintage case, and the best part...it's burgundyglo.

amazing. i have a matching pair of rickenbackers. what a great day.

sergio, that's true, never too many rickenbackers. however, before i get any more i'll have to get a bass amp. anyone got an extra they wouldn't mind parting with?

no, the music retailers in austin have been all but eradicated by mars and guitar center. there are a few really good used/vintage stores (like austin vintage guitars, they have a 325JL for $750!) and several low-quality new stores that aren't authorized dealers for anything but epiphones and washburns and the like.

so, with some measure of shame, i admit that i bought my 360 from ed roman. i really wanted a burgundyglo, and i really wanted the vintage pickups, and he had 'em. i tried originally to get it from north coast music, but apparently they were still on order.

i didn't know ed roman's reputation at the time, and luckily he didn't screw up my order (save the fact that i had to return two cases for replacement), but i would never order from him again.

Same in Boston, those two killed a long time store called Wurlitzers, that I bought my first Ric 4001 in, I bought it in 1977. They had a lot of great vintage stuff too.

Owen, I'm from the North Shore. Try JustStrings.com next time. They get to your house in just (2) days and they have every conceivable brand for your Ricks. They are located in Nashua N.H. and you can even go there to pick strings up. Just a tip.

Owen, where did you go, to Commonwealth ave? They had about ten old Rics all the way back to a 73 FG. (I bought my Sea Green and my 78 Midnight Blue there.) in there a few years ago, now nothing in any of their Boston area stores (there are 4)
How is your bridge?, check for a burr or sharp area there unless it broke somewhere else, the only time I ever broke a string in my life (and I have been known to play heard at times) was when my bridge was screwed up on an old Fender Telecaster bass.
Juststrings is great, I don't know if they'll ship to England though for Owen, or for that matter Perú for me.

Well i know why it broke, im not used to the grover tuners, and misjudged the ammount of wraps needed,,,,,so the string (D) was rubbing against the flared out metal washer thing and it caught and like, unraveled its self.

Yeah it was commonwealth avenue,,,,no Ricks they tho,,none.

And i use this amazing UK string mail order thing
