Yes but the differences were much more than just cosmetic, both those cars were pavement melters and were as different internally as externally.
I actually don't care about the prices, more power to anyone who gets that kind of money for one. I am more impressed by how a bass plays and sounds than by it's collectibilty factor although I'm not immune to collecting. It is unfortune and I'm not being personal here, that many people buy them just to resell and make a profit, but hey thats how our system works, right?

CS basses fetch a ton of cash & there were 1000 produced, so the 60 LK's & 75 DCM's should be pretty high in the price stratosphere if only due to the short production run.
Besides, Ken has never apologized for buying & quickly reselling basses to make some cash. It's often the reason he buys them, not to mention the opportunity to play them for a while.
He's posted this fact on the RIC forum.

I'm with Jared on this one, since I'm not pursuing one this issue doesn't bother me. I must say though these 75th's are a very sharp looking bass guitar, it's easy to see why someone would pay big bucks to get in on the exclusive club. I'm sure a 75th lover sees these the same way I see an early 73 4001, or a C.S. lover when they see one of those.

Back in the Yenko and Z-16 days, there were lots of pavement melters, and you could order an Impala sedan with a 427, too...just having the motor was not the primary attraction for most--it was being the first with the fastest...plus it was the "ultimate, deluxe, limited-edition" thing, too, and that's my main point. I should have been clearer, I guess...

I didn't order mine with the intention of flipping it. Heck, I'm even planning to install a toaster & HS on it! (Ducks and runs)!
My wife said it was OK to order one to coincide with my 25th Anniversary, this is my gift from the Mrs. While I'll never be in a position to have more than 5 or 6 RICS, the few I do own are very special to me.
I have on occasion, picked up a bass to flip, but for the only reason to BUY MORE RICS with the profits! That's how I was able to get my V63.
I'm not in a position to judge others with a "let them eat cake" attitude. This discussion has been covered in the past and it has gotten (at times) hot and heavy.
Not everyone is in the position to spend TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars on a RIC collection. If someone orders a 2K bass and overnight it becomes a 5K bass, more power to them. Hey, it might be the break they need to nail that 73 4001 or WHATEVER dream bass they previously thought they never could obtain or it could get them out of a bad situation. Heck, they could even order 2 NEW 4004's and a 4003! I'm sure the company & the retailers would like that!
IMHO, this generates hard feelings because some people may have REALLY wanted one of these babies and missed out. Now that they are in the 5K realm, it's upsetting.
While there some PROSPECTORS out there, to some people, it's like any other comodity...buy low, sell high. Most of us here don't fit into that category, and would never consider selling a cherished guitar so that generates some emotional responses. To some, these are only bits of wood & wire, to us they are like works of art with lots of attention and love put into them and we cherish them.
Circumstances change, people hit hard times, there are a million reasons people may have to sell their baby. I don't think we help things by adding insult to injury or sit here and arm chair judge them. Heck, I ordered a few basses a long time ago, my wife since became very ill and I had to sell off some basses to pay for what I had ordered. Things happen guys....

I will say that I certainly wish so many Ricks were easier to afford. I could write you a list of the ones I want to own, play and enjoy, some I've wanted for years, as long as I've been playing the bass. However, whenever I pick up one of mine I think of how much instruments just like mine are selling for and I think to myself, "Gee it's good to have the best."

There are more out there for sale that you guys think. I send a second offer to the second highest bidder since I thought that cat in the UK wasn't going to come through.
It appears that the second chance bidder has two offers pending on sale at round the $4500 mark.
So who knows what it is happening and so far I feel my sale could be a fluke, but again, supply and demand. Can't never tell with this market once it becomes more noticeable in public eye.
The value of this bass is whatever you are willing to pay.
I regret selling mine but I needed to do what needed to done.
For those that haven't seen one in person, the bass is drop dead gorgeous. I like the finish but blueburst will always be my favorite. Unless blackburst is issued.
