Ebay Anniversary Bass price, very sickening

Well, of the 75 4003DCMs that were sold, over 40 were/are to be owned by members of this great forum.

In a sense we control the market on this item.

BTW - Edgar - your second chance guy may have been bluffing since he thought you might be offering him the bass. It could be his way of negotiating.

Marc,

I know he was. It was blatantly obvious. I just responded by letting him know it was sold.
The UK was a real trooper and on the up and up so I just waited out a day and it worked out.

I'm surprised too about the LK.

If I had the 10K, I'd grab it because 4 is my lucky number...

One thing we always have to remember about collectible prices getting higher...there are less buyers for them

I would like to hear peoples reasoning for thinking the value, i.e. the prices, will hold 5 years, 10 years from now. When the boomers start to cramp up or die off, will the Nintendo/Sony PS generation be drawn to buy at very high valuations? Is basing your retirement on the 4001K plan sound?

I think guitars in general will continue to be a great investment.

My kids are Nintendo/Sony PS2 generation kids. I have a very small collection of Lionel trains. I'm crazy over them but the kids really never "got it". I remember DOZENS of hobby store's in my area as a kid, now, I have to mail order everything, there just aren't any train stores like there once was.

I think guitars have a much broader appeal. My kids friends all love music, one plays guitar one keyboard and one is in working band.

JUST THIS PAST WEEK, I turned two teenagers onto YES. They went NUTS, THAT lead into Pink Floyd, ELP, MOODY BLUES, NEKTAR....it was WILD to see these kids grab hold of this. Within the first 4 minutes, the keyboard player asked "IS THAT THE BASS, WHAT/HOW IS THAT?".....What a GREAT LEAD in to bring out my CS!

Another generation has the bug!

The torch has been passed!

These guys are tomorrow's guitar & bass buying consumers.

Not old enough to remember them when they were new, but I d know that the Yenko's were pretty hot. Or the Baldwin-Motion Camaros? Grand Spaulding 440 Darts? Muscle cars are insane.

I remember when one of the 1-of-7 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cudas Convertibles sold for $150,ooo and everyone's jaw dropped. THat was 10 years ago. Now, I think on of the 7 went for 1.5 million?

I'm pretty sure vintage guitars will hold their own fairly well. Can't imaging ever seeing a 4005 ever sell for $2000 again.

I think Paul W. has a point. Rickenbacker can always bring back the Shadow, Tux, Redneck, Blackstar, CS, 4002, 4080, probably even the Lemmy,,ect..

But they're only going to have one 75th anniversary.

Scott, the only reason I would disagree with the bringing back of the instruments is that Rickenbacker always had a plan when they made editions. The plan was never "let's be greedy"(which would be the only reason for bringing those back). If it was, then they'd be making instruments in Indonesia.

With that said, while I missed the event of a lifetime last year, it is my understanding there is this pallet of 4002 bodies. Couldn't blame them for using them,but if they did make 4002's using them, they would be distinctly different.

The 4002 will alway bother me, because I wanted to buy one when they were in production but was urged not to because of peer pressure.
