I think it's a bit oversimplifying to say there's only two pieces of plastic that differentiates a DCM from a stock 4003.

I'd start by asking if the seller had a ballpark figure in mind, if you're thinking in the $3k range and they're thinking in the $5k range then there's a potential negotiation range you can both potentially work with.

At the end of the day it's down to what the individual feels they're prepared to pay for what they want. If someone could surface my original 73 4001 that was stolen from me I'd probably be willing to pay in excess of $5k to get my original Ric back.

That could PROBABLY be answered better when the current one on Ebay is sold.

So far, to my knowledge, the only measuring stick is the $5700.00 sale on Ebay.

The current auction would give us an idea if that first one was a flash in the pan or not. The guitars are selling in the $3000.00-3500.00 range currently.

I'd imagine it would come down to what a person is WILLING to let one go for and what one is WILLING to pay.

Don't forget, the exchange rate for buyers overseas will drive up the prices higher than they normally would fetch here in the US.

I'd CONSIDER a GOOD DEAL in this range, AT THIS POINT IN TIME. That could change EITHER WAY the moment Ken's auction on Ebay comes to an end.

We all know the collectable potential, that fact alone can tip the scales towards the higher numbers.

I am thinking double what you paid. I paid $1694 total with taxes. So if I sold I would ask roughly $3400. I have another one coming that I paid full retail for, so I guess I would double that. As I said on the RIC website, if that makes me evil, then call me evil. But I've been called worse.

Good business practice rule #1. You don't fix a selling price based on what you paid for an item, but on what it would cost you to replace it when it has gone.

It's not like you beat an old lady over the head to get the thing!
People need to calm down about this stuff (I don't mean anyone in particular!!!).
Sure a lot of us would love to have a special edition (pick your fave).
There won't be any more. EVER!
That IS the definition of limited, & no, life definitely is not fair.

If you bought the bass or guitar with legally earned money, then you can darn well do whatever you want with it.
If you can sell it in excess of $5000, then by all means do so.
I really don't see the problem.

It's a beautiful finish & we'll never see it on another RIC design.

If you bought a house for $100,000 & sold the land a year later for $500,000 due to rezoning or whatever would this be an issue?
