What's the worst?

I love Don't Pass Me By AND Piggies! Worse... I dunno, haven't heard them all yet. It's Only Love and Tell Me What You See instantly come to mind as should=be throwaways.

"How do you do what you do to me" is my nomination for worst, I Saw her Standing There is one of the best, along with "Across the Universe" and "I am The Walrus"

If that's not a great lyric for a rock tune, what is? (Ah the days when rock 'n roll was so good it could sell periodicals.)

Don't get It's Only Love as a throwaway. Great sound on the guitar lead in that one (not sure which analog fabs trick went into that one) and unlike Hide Your Love Away is a prime example of Lennon's vocal being influenced by Dylan, albeit an overlooked one.

What Goes On (and on and on) now that's filler, though Macca gets some good bass licks in on it.

I don't like It's Only Love because well... even Lennon knew it was a bit much on the cutesy wutsie love you love you love you type of song.

Well then how could a guy like that possibly work with McCartney all of those years?

You might keep in mind how many of his own songs Lennon slagged as "rubbish" in his final interviews, a lot of pretty great stuff in there. I guess he knew how to write 'em but not how to rate 'em?

He may have not liked it because it doesn't have a bridge. "It's Only Love," only has a couple verses and chorus. And is only 1:58. But he hits a nice high note at the end, eh?

Well, the on McCartney song that I can think of that bothers me as much as It's Only Love is Tell Me What You See.

It might just be a "feel" thing. they both have the same type of atmosphere and feel. maybe that, combined with lyrics I don't like hearing, makes it what it is.

We all have our differences, don't we? It's Only Love is one of my all-time favs. The verses give me a contact buzz, and I love the song structure.

But there aren't many bands you can have similar conversations about. This thread wouldn't work so well with, say, Fine Young Cannibals.

I do agree that neither of those are among their best or even hidden gems. I enjoy Bad Boy more than either because not only Lennon's performance but the subject matter is sort of like Blackboard Jungle, only in song.

Lennon was quoted as saying he hated Abbey Road, particularly the second side, which is one of my all time favorites. This was during the playboy interview, at a time when him and Mac were not at all nice to each other ( Too many people, 3 legs, How do you sleep )

I think Abbey Road is my fav. lp by them as well.

As for the Playboy interviews, I though the only time he gave those was near the end and he was on good terms with Macc (Macca has said as much) but not on such good terms with George, though I think Macca kinda blew that up to me more of a row than it was when it appears that John was simply giving George a few knocks in public to remind him who was leader, eh?

George didn't shut John out anymore than he did Paul or Ringo. Only difference is, they probably didn't bother to pick up the book.

John's line about George "mentioning every two bit say player he ever met but not me!" was classic, though.

Well it's obviously been a long time since I read all this stuff, guess it's time to give it a re-read, and get some new info cuz, I have no idea what the I me Mine book is.

I remember it cost something like $300, and based on Lennon's rant, I had been led to believe that John was not mentioned at all. I never read it. So the other Beatles were never mentioned either?
