I can't recall the dates, but Orbison's Pretty Woman came first, and we know the Beatles were fans of Roy.
Glenn, I really like Slow Down...it's a bit of a silly song, but the performance is energetic.
As for me, I can't ever really pick a true favorite, but my two favorite albums are Please Please Me and Revolver.

This is a toughie for me too. There are probably several, and they each have different meanings to me when I hear them. I'll always love "All My Loving" cause that was the first song on Sullivan. One of my other favorites for years has been "I'm A Loser". I remember seeing a broadcast of an English TV show here in the US where they did that live (along with "Kansas City" and several others), and I just completely dug Harrison's guitar playing. I spent hours and hours learning that one.
"Hey Jude" brings a lump to my throat when I see McCartney do it in concert (on DVD, I've never seen him live). I know, it's overdone, but it always kind of signified the height of their influence and abilities.
I suppose the one that I consider their "flagship" song is "A Day In The Life". There isn't one time when I hear it when I'm not awed by Lennon's voice. I also remember it as the song I heard on Dec. 8, 1980, when it finally hit home that he was gone.
So many good songs....so little time....

One that i've always enjoyed from the Hard Days Night album is "Tell me why". And , as it turns out, it's a favorite of fellow Aussie forumite and "The Very Almosts" founding member Darren Trott!
As a consequence , "The Very Almosts" will soon be recording a version of TMW which we will post on the bands myspace page!

This post comes from a raving, lifelong fan, so don't misinterpret. But sometimes I have a difficult time nailing down just what it is about them that makes them so great. They ARE great, duh...but I can't always pinpoint what makes it so. Every song is so different from the one before, and every song has that...that Magic. But sometimes I honestly cannot define What It Is.
Even their more mediocre offerings are sprinkled with that magic Beatledust, or something, and only they could have pulled it off. I guess certain combinations of people create the magic that pushes it over the top. One thing I know for sure, no one had more magic than the Beatles.

I've always admired the Beatles' work for the fact that they wrote most of the music they performed once they started recording. As most here, a list of my favorites would be way too long.
But, some of the stands out for me are: Please Please Me, I Want to Hold Your Hand, I Feel Fine, And Your Bird Can Sing, Paperback Writer, Taxman, Hello Goodbye and Back in the USSR.

If I Fell goes down as best ballad in my songbook. Such tarnished innocence is quite poignant.
“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did.”

With a transcendent key change between intro and main body...moving beyond clever and into genius. What a song.
